Because we are entering the final weeks of 2024, now is the best time to look back on all the video games that have been released over the previous 12 months and provide our final rating of the best video games of the year. There have been some great entries, so we are here to give our final review. Let's get into it.

10 - Tales Of Kenzera: Zau

In 10th place on our list of the best video games in 2024 is Tales Of Kenzera: Zau. We initially reviewed this game when it was first released, and our rating still hasn't changed. The game was released in February 2024 and was rated 9/10 on Steam. It is an action-adventure video game that is available on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X/S.

The game has made our top 10 list because it is a great video game overall in terms of graphics, gameplay and storyline, but it also has a beautiful message. The game really allows the player to connect to it through the theme of grief, which is explored further as the game progresses.

9 - Silent Hill 2

Next up in 9th place is our only horror video game on our ranking, making Silent Hill 2 2024 our top horror video game of 2024. The game was released in October 2024 and received a 10/10 rating on Steam. It is a PS5 game that focuses on horror and survival skills. 

Besides the game's terrifying monsters and battles, the game has amazing graphics, an incredible soundtrack and a great plot.

8 - Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree

Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree was a very popular entry in 2024. Releasing June 2024, the game got a 7/10 rating on Steam, plus 4 nominations at The Game Awards 2024. This action, adventure video game is available on PlayStation and Xbox Series X/S and has incredible lore, great immersion and beautiful gaming mechanics.

7 - Tekken 8

Just missing out on our top 5 is Tekken 8, the fighting video game released in January 2025 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It got a 7/10 rating on Steam and won The Best Fighting Video Game at the Game Awards 2024, making it the best combat video game of this year. Besides the stunning graphics, the game was praised for its Tekken plotline, having great communication with the previous games following perfectly from the old game storylines.

6 - Princess Peach Showtime

Next up is the first Super Mario-themed video game on our list. By no surprise. However, this game is slightly different because it is one of the first Super Mario games to not actually feature Mario as the main character. Instead, it's Princess Peach. The game was  released in March 2024 for Nintendo Switch and is an action, platform game.

We love how focusing the main character as a female opens up all-new audience and player possibilities for gamers, plus allows us to explore the character of Princess Peach more, as we get to live through her character.

5 - Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Next up we have a game that we have seen a lot in the gaming scene since 1997 and that's Final Fantasy VII, the rebirth edition. This game was released in February 2024 and is a PS5, action-adventure game which is a re-run of the game from over 20 years ago. It has great production value, strong character writing and brilliant humour making it even more enjoyable.

4 - Animal Well

Next is a game that many people expected to win Game Of The Year, or at least be in our top 3. Animal Well. The game was released in May 2024 and is a PlayStation, Xbox Series X/S, puzzle video game. It got a 10/10 rating on Steam and even got nominated for 2 awards, The Game Award For Best Independent Game, and The Game Award For Best Indie Game. If the game perhaps had come home with a winning title, it may have been higher up on our ranking. 

The game offers a great selection of brain teasers, gorgeous pixel art and dynamic lighting.

3 - Super Mario Party Jamboree

In third place is our top-rated Super Mario video game of the year. Super Mario Party Jamboree. The game was released quite recently only in October 2024, and is a party, puzzle game available for the Nintendo Switch. Each year, Nintendo consistently release a new Mario-themed video game that always seems to be a success and performs well. This edition is a party-themed, group game, something Nintendo doesn't do often and is a great asset to the series.

2 - Black Myth: Wukong

In second place for the Best Video Games Of 2024, we have Black Myth: Wukong. This game was released in August 2024 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It got a 10/10 rating on Steam, won Game Of The Year at the Joystick Awards and even got nominated for Game Of The Year at The Game Awards. Within its first 3 days of release, the game sold over 10 million copies, making it China's most successful video game of all time.

1 - Astrobot 

And finally, our number one position for the best video game of 2024 is... Astrobot! The PS5, September 2024 platform video game. This game was extremely anticipated before it was released, being called the 'best game of the year' before it even hit our shelves. Astrobot won The Game Awards Game Of The Year and even had its own controller created in celebration of the game. Gamers could get their hands on a limited edition, Astrobot-themed video game PS5 controller.

Astrobot also has great nods throughout the game to the PlayStation console, which makes it even more special considering 2024 was the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation. We loved this video game, what are your thoughts?
