The Game Awards are now over. A big congratulations to all the award winners, especially to FromSoftware and Elden Ring for winning Game of the Year. But the big thing we are excited about is the game reveals...
Star Wars: Jedi Survivor
Star Wars: Jedi Survivor is a game that many players have been looking forward to. The first game, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is a big hit. And now the sequel, Star Wars: Jedi Survivor has been revealed and confirmed to be released on March 17th of 2023. And it looks awesome.
From what we know so far, the game follows Cal Kestis trying his best to survive 5 years after the events of Fallen Order. Around the same time that the Kenobi series takes place. We can expect to visit various new and familiar planets, new equipment and abilities, new combat stances and more!
Death Stranding 2
Jedi Survivor isn’t the only highly anticipated sequel we got to see at the Game Awards either. We also got to see Kojima announce the sequel to the highly acclaimed Death Stranding. Death Stranding 2 is the working name and will seem to take place several years after the first game. When will Death Stranding 2 be released? No release date is confirmed so far, but it is unlikely that Death Stranding 2 will release in 2023.
Hades 2
The sequel to the hit rogue-like dungeon crawler: Hades was also announced. And if you have played the first game (if you haven’t, it is worth playing) you will know why this is a big deal.
There isn’t much we know about this game, but what we do know is that it will follow Melinoe the princess of the underworld in a fight against the Titan of Time. The game picks up some time after the events of the first game and will introduce a variety of new locations, challenges, upgrades and more. Again, no release date confirmed.
Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty
We have seen Cyberpunk glow up after the release of Edgerunners, and now we get to see a bit more of the upcoming DLC for Cyberpunk 2077. We’ve known this has been in the works for a while and is set to release sometime in 2023. It is also going to be Cyberpunk 2077’s only DLC.
But with the new trailer, we got to see another look at the DLC. Including some of the areas, we will get to visit and new and returning characters. Including Idris Elba who will play a new character called Solomon Reed and Keanu Reeves who will return in his role as Johnny Silverhand.
Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores
We also got to see the new DLC for Horizon Forbidden West at the Game Awards. Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores will take players to the ruins of Los Angeles. The story will pick up where Forbidden West's main story ended and introduce a series of new characters and adventures.
No release date is confirmed either. But one detail that is confirmed is that the Burning Shores DLC will be exclusively on PS5. PS4 players will have to miss out on this.
Judas
Judas was a game that instantly caught my attention. And there are several reasons why. The main one is that it is being made by Ken Levine, the creator of Bioshock. And by looking at the gameplay and atmosphere shown in the trailer, you can see that Judas is very reminiscent of Bioshock.
Of course, Judas takes place on a disintegrating starship rather than you underwater or floating city. You play as Judas, in your attempts to escape the ship. You can either befriend or fight the other survivors on board to make your way out. This is all we know about this game, and nothing else has been confirmed yet.
Dune: Awakening
Next up is the open-world survival MMO, Dune: Awakening. I think it’s going to be awesome to explore the world of Dune and encounter all the wildlife and locations that we’ve seen in the Dune movies and learned about in the Dune books. And it looks like the game is still on schedule to release in 2023, with the pre-alpha teaser trailer being revealed at the Game Awards.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
Next up is a new reveal. From the creators of the highly rated Arkham series, and a series close to my heart comes Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. A game that puts you in the shoes of many popular villains, rather than Batman. We have seen four games with Batman as the protagonist, and this will be the first where we are pitted against him. It will also be Kevin Conroy's last appearance as Batman, so a congratulations on such a great career is in order.
Wild Hearts
Wild Hearts is an action RPG that is being made by EA and is set to release on the 16th of February 2023. In this game, you hunt giant monsters in a fantasy world called Azuma, which is inspired by feudal Japan. At The Game Awards, we got to see a new trailer that displayed all the action and gameplay we will get to see at the start of 2023.
Tekken 8
Tekken 8 also got a pretty neat trailer. Giving us not only a good look at the gameplay and story we can expect to see within the game, but also many of the characters we will get to play as. This is the first gameplay trailer we have seen of the game so far, and it looks spectacular.
Destiny 2 Lightfall
We have known about Lightfall since August, but the Game Awards gave us another look at the upcoming Destiny 2 expansion. Including a look at many of the new Strand abilities, including the new grappling hook. Along with a series of stunning visuals, like the Neomuna cityscape, a great shot of the Witness and lots of action cinematics.
Final Fantasy XVI
Another highly anticipated release for 2023 is Final Fantasy XVI. We already know quite a bit about this game, but we did get a new trailer. The biggest part of this trailer is that we now have an official release date. Final Fantasy XVI will be coming out on the 22nd of June 2023. The trailer did also display a lot of amazing boss fights, scenery and gameplay that is worth checking out.
Diablo IV
Diablo IV now also has a release date confirmed. A new trailer revealed that Diablo 4 will release on the 6th of June 2023. The trailer displayed a cool cinematic, but nothing was shown in terms of gameplay or story. But considering this is bound to be one of the biggest releases of 2023, the cinematic was more than enough to get us excited.
Street Fighter 6
Yet another game that now has a confirmed release date. Street Fighter 6. And releasing in June. Street Fighter 6 is going to release on June 2nd, 2023, and will feature a single-player immersive mode, a world tour mode, and even more characters.
Atomic Heart
A new Atomic Heart trailer also dropped during the Game Awards. Atomic Heart is a big game that I am really looking forward to next year. With a series of abilities, weapons and enemy types that all look insane. And I want to quickly mention the previous gameplay trailer they released too, as the boss fight shown in that was just mind blowing. And to see even more gameplay, abilities, weapons, enemies and environments in this new trailer only builds the hype for me.
Game Updates
I want to also quickly mention that we got a look at the new seasons of Rocket League and Fall Guys. So if you are a big fan of those games, you’ll want to check them out.
But some of the biggest updates come for PC players. It has been revealed that hit PS exclusive games: Returnal and The Last of Us Part 1 will be coming to PC relatively soon. When? Last of Us Part 1 will release on PC on the third of March. Returnal for PC has no confirmed release date yet, but early 2023 is the said timeframe.
That’s not all of the announcements and updates though, here is a list of all the reveals that we didn’t get to mention:
