With the changes to PlayStation Plus now announced, it is only normal that some of us are anxious and feel a bit mixed about the changes. But there is one thing that we know isn’t making a change, and that is the free monthly PS Plus games.
On April 5th (or tomorrow on the day of writing this) the next lineup of PS Plus free games are being added. What are this month’s PS Plus games? Well, let’s find out.
With the PS Plus lineup changing, it is your last chance to get last month’s games for free. Including Ghostrunner for the PlayStation 5 (an excellent game, truly recommended), Ark: Survival Evolved, Team Sonic Racing and Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.
Hood: Outlaws and Legends (PS4 & PS5)
First up on the PS Plus games of April 2022 comes Hood: Outlaws and Legends. An online multiplayer game that is available for both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Hood: Outlaws and Legends takes place in a medieval world where you and three other players will be competing against another team in a series of challenging heists. The idea of the game is focused on who can get to the treasure first.
Each heist is made up of several phases, like obtaining a key, finding the vault based on a series of clues, etc. There are four selectable characters, each having its strengths and weaknesses. You have got tank classes, ranged and more that require keeping strong coordination with your teammates.
Is Hood: Outlaws and Legends worth playing? The game has received many mixed reviews from its initial release in May 2021. With most reviews being very average. Many complaints were mainly tied to a lack of content and an unbalanced combat system. Though if you are looking for a team-oriented stealth game, you may find some enjoyment here.
Hood: Outlaws and Legends is worth around £15.99 on the PlayStation store. But as it is free for PS Plus users, it is worth adding to your library.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated (PS4)
The second of the free games that will be available for PS Plus subscribers this April is the remastered version of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom.
I am sure most of you are aware of what this game is based on and will offer a lot of entertainment to your children.
You play as SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy in this underwater world. Attempting to stop Plankton and his army of rampant robots. This updated remake features improved gameplay and performance, along with new additions like a multiplayer mode, a new horde mode and updated content that was cut from the original.
When it comes to initial response and reviews, many critics found the game to be very average with many bugs and issues that did not hold up well in the remastered version (I would take user reviews into account, but it was extremely difficult to find one that was serious).
As for price, it is valued at £24.99 on the PlayStation Store and maybe a great game to keep your kids entertained.
Slay the Spire (PS4)
Last on the list is the roguelike card game Slay the Spire. As mentioned, this game fuses both card and roguelike game types to create a single-player deck builder.
Slay the Spire takes you on a journey up the Spire. Where every time you play, the layout changes completely. The journey is yours to make, you can pick a safe or risky path to take, face numerous enemy types, select your cards, create your deck, uncover a series of powerful relics and face some seriously wicked bosses.
Reviews of this game, both from critics and users, were very positive. With praises going towards the games balanced and consistently entertaining mechanics. The game stays consistently entertaining as you play and avoids getting repetitive.
Slay the Spire is normally priced at £19.99 on the PlayStation Store and seems like a great addition to your library if you are a PS Plus subscriber.
