A whole weekend of game reveals through E3, Summer Game Fest, Ubisoft Forward and Nintendo Direct, have shown us what is next in the world of gaming. We’ve seen some massive games that we predicted would show up, and a few unexpected reveals for some great-looking games.
We are going to look at the best of the game reveals that have been shown over the weekend and through all of the events, and some of the finer details about the games.
Halo Infinite
Halo Infinite was shown off for the second time since its gameplay reveal many months ago. Now revealed to be released at the end of 2021. Halo Infinite's release date has not been confirmed quite yet, but we know it will be during the holidays.
With the reveal, we saw some amazing moments. We got to see an almost complete world in immense detail, that from the reveal looks beautiful. Setting place on the biggest Halo ring and areas that we have ever seen.
We saw a slight look at the campaign of Halo Infinite, though it wasn’t very long it told us quite a bit. With a new Cortana look-alike who will accompany you throughout the campaign, to find out what has happened to the actual Cortana.
But the biggest moment with Halo Infinite came with the multiplayer reveal. It has been revealed that Halo Infinite’s multiplayer will be free to play and will see the return of many of our favourite weapons, along with a several interesting new ones.
Showing off a several amazing new abilities, tools and vehicles that can be used to your advantage on a battlefield. Like the new grappling hook, deflection ability and vehicles like the Scorpion tank, banshee and new vehicles that have been seen.
We got to see plenty of Halo Infinite gameplay, and it looks good. And it looks to be one of the biggest releases of this year. I cannot wait to see what this new Halo game has to offer with its story and other modes.
As a Halo game, it is an Xbox exclusive. Xbox Series X, Xbox One and Windows 10 PC users will all be able to enjoy this game without issue. It will also be available on Game Pass from the day it released.
Far Cry 6
Ubisoft’s Far Cry 6 made an appearance multiple times this weekend, displaying the high-octane fuelled gameplay that you expect from this franchise. The Far Cry 6 release date has been confirmed as October 7th 2021.
We got to see more of the villain, and ruthless dictator, Antón Castillo. Played by Giancarlo Esposito, we are set to face a dictator who is willing to do anything to make the fictional country of Yara, a paradise.
We will play the character Dani Rojas. You can play as either the male or female version of this character. A guerrilla fighter who has joined the Libertad, a group attempting to free Yara from the grips of Antón Castillo.
One of my favourite parts of the reveal was the arsenal of weapons we will have at our disposal. They look devastating, but also really unique. Like a minigun made from a motorcycle engine, or the Supremo backpacks, like a cluster of mortars that cause complete havoc.
And the vehicles shown off add more to that level of devastation we expect from Far Cry. Being able to take charge and drive tanks, unique customisable vehicles and more than just look great and super powerful.
There are also some cool animals that can help you in combat. Like a crocodile that wears a denim vest and has a golden tooth, but causes some massive damage. It gives that really fun but deadly impression that is usually put in the game.
Another wicked thing that has been announced is the season pass reveal. Where we can play as the villains of Far Cry 3, 4 and 5. Going into their backstory and how they got to where they are. Letting us play as Vaas Montenegro, Pagan Min and Joseph Seed in three different tales.
And the season pass also includes Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Such a great move.
Far Cry Six will be available for all platforms. Which includes PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC and Google Stadia.
Starfield
Bethesda announced one of their brand-new IPs, Starfield. Imagine Fallout but in space. It looks and sounds exciting. But we will be waiting a while for the Starfield release date, which has been confirmed as November 11th 2022.
We got to see a small cinematic trailer that showed us that Starfield is coming. Though the Starfield trailer did look very cool and gave us a date for when we get to play it, it didn’t give us much in terms of story or gameplay.
All we got to see was an unknown character within their spaceship preparing to take off. Showing off a wicked landscape with a few small interesting features. Like a robot walking around, a futuristic-looking weapon, a large structure on the planet's surface and more.
But anything else around this, we will have to wait and see. But Bethesda’s new universe in 25 years will be an Xbox and PC exclusive, so PlayStation users will be missing out. I am sure that Bethesda’s Starfield will be one of the most anticipated games next year.
Redfall
Redfall was a very unexpected game, not many even knew it existed until its reveal on Sunday 13th. Coming from Arkane Studios, the creators of popular games Dishonored and Prey, comes Redfall. Redfall's release date will be in Summer 2022.
Giving us a juicy trailer to feast on, Redfall is an open-world co-op first person-shooter that takes place in Redfall in Massachusetts. A town that has fallen prey to deadly vampires, who have managed to block the sun out, and a cult following that wishes to join them.
In this dark town, you can play by yourself, or with up to three friends. Being able to select from four really interesting characters that aim to free the town from this legion of evil.
You have Devinder Crousley, an internet-famous paranormal investigator and inventor who was on tour before being trapped in Redfall. Which is where everything starts to click for him. His inventions prove effective against these monsters, using them to his advantage.
Layla Ellison worked as an intern at the mysterious Aevum Therapeutics research facility, when something suddenly went wrong. The next thing she remembered, she was at home with new and powerful telekinetic powers.
Remi De La Rosa is a combat engineer who helps people across the world within an elite Navy rescue unit. Becomes trapped in Redfall when her ship on her way to investigate the incident is destroyed. With her helpful robot: Cohort by her side, she fights to rescue the survivors at Redfall.
Jacob Boyer is the last of the four playable characters and is an ex-sharpshooter now part of a private security force who was sent into Redfall. With supernatural precision to help him who strikes from the shadows.
And the background behind the vampires is also a bit mysterious. With a scientific experiment going wrong, turning people into vampires and giving them powerful abilities, they only continue to evolve.
Once again, an Xbox and PC exclusive will be available with Game Pass from day one.
Forza Horizon 5
Forza Horizon 5 looks like an absolutely beautiful game. Set to be the biggest and most diverse area in the Forza Horizon franchise. With the Forza Horizon 5 release date being on November 9th 2021, we will not have to wait very long to play this highly-rated game.
The Forza Horizon 5 location is in Mexico, where we will get to race through stunning environments. Like dense and rich rainforests, historical Mayan ruins, a massive volcano, and sprawling cities and towns that all look astonishing.
Of course, this game will have the classical races and tasks that have been introduced over the years. But we will get to experience so much more, like new mini-games like Piñata Pop that push players to gather as many piñatas as they can.
The Events Lab though looks to be an incredible addition. Letting players create their modes and activities allow for a unique level of gameplay where you get to decide exactly how everything works.
And there is a new campaign mode that lets you experience every location available within the game through a massive adventure. The world looks ultra-realistic, with every area being fully detailed on real locations within Mexico.
With new cars and environments to experience, this game looks to make the most of the Xbox Series X, using high performance and graphics to take it to the next level.
Another Xbox exclusive that looks like it is going to be one of the finest racing games of our generation.
The Outer Worlds 2
Another unexpected one that has been revealed. Only two years after release, The Outer Worlds is getting a sequel. Though its release date is yet to be clarified, and the game is still in early development, it has been confirmed.
Though the trailer was quite amusing, it served as more of an announcement rather than a full reveal. Simply telling us that the game is in the works.
But we can assume that the game will take place in a whole new star system with a new crew to follow. With new weapons, characters and places to experience.
It will be a while until we see any more of The Outer Worlds 2, but it will sure be exciting.
Back 4 Blood
Back 4 Blood is a co-op first-person shooter that puts you against a horde of zombies called the Ridden. Made by the creators of the highly rated Left 4 Dead franchise, the expectations are certainly set high.
As said, Back for Blood puts you and other players against a giant horde of savage zombies that you have to clear out to reach your goal. Made with a cooperative campaign, fun PvP modes and a lot of replayability.
The extreme four-player campaign will drive you into the heart of the horde. Allowing you to go solo, or join together with your friends. You can play as any of the 8 cleaners/characters that all have unique abilities and style of play, you’ve got:
- Hoffman – a cleaner who focuses on ammunition. Spawning ammo when you get kills, increasing the team ammo capacity an additional offensive item slot.
- Walker – focuses on overall combat, increasing damage, team health and granting increased accuracy on kills whenever you play as him.
- Doc – quite obviously focuses on healing. Allowing you to heal other players even if you don’t have gear, increases effectiveness on healing items and gives team trauma resistance.
- Mom – acts like a supporting character. Giving instant revives, and addition support inventory and an extra team life just in case.
- Holly - this cleaner focus on stamina and damage resistance. Allowing you to recover stamina when getting kills, increasing damage resistance and team stamina.
- Evangelo – speed is Evangelo’s main ability. Allowing you to break out of enemy grabs, regenerate stamina and give the team increased movement speed.
- Karlee – this cleaner makes things that bit quicker. When playing as Karlee, you can sense different hazards, give an extra quick inventory slot and increase team use speed.
- Jim – the last of the cleaners, and aims at extra damage. When you get precision kills, your damage will increase, aiming down sites is always quicker and team damage on weak spots is much greater.
But the campaign mode isn’t the only part of this game. New PvP modes allow you to go 4 vs 4. With one team playing as the cleaners, and the other as the Ridden. Humans must survive as long as they can, but the zombies must kill quickly.
Whenever you play the campaign, it will never be the same. The environments, enemies, hazards and so much more will change to make sure it's never the same. But we can also expect the Back 4 Blood gameplay to be very similar to Left 4 Dead. Which I don’t have a massive issue with, that was a very fun game.
And it isn’t a good zombie game without brutal enemies. And Back 4 Blood has them. With enemies including:
- Snitcher – when attacked it will release a loud screech that will attract a horde.
- Tallboy – massive zombies that use their huge hulking arms to swing at players and cause mass damage.
- Reeker – a slow-moving large zombie that explodes when killed, knocking cleaners back.
- Stinger – it travels across multiple surfaces and hides in darkness, attacking when you least expect it.
Not all of the enemy types have been revealed just yet, but they sure look dangerous.
Back 4 Blood will be available on all platforms, including both old-generation and new-generation consoles. Back 4 Blood’s release date will be on October 12th 2021.
We will get to play this game very soon. With the Back 4 Blood beta starting from the 5th of August. With the early access beta is available from August 5th to 9th. And open beta being available from August 12th to 16th.
Battlefield 2042
Battlefield 2042 looks to be of the best multiplayer games that will be released this year in 2021. At CCUK we have already taken a look into this game in a lot of detail, and I recommend you take a look at it here: What We Know About Battlefield 2042 so far — Custom Controllers UK
Battlefield 2042 release date is October 22nd 2021, and it is solely a multiplayer game. And more gameplay has now been shown for this game. It looks really exciting.
The gunplay and vehicles all look great, and the maps and storms that ravage them look intense. A game that I am looking forward to.
Elden Ring
It does exist! For years and years, we’ve been waiting to hear more about this game and what it is about. Being a soul-like game, it looks very exciting to finally see what it's going to be like. And the Elden Ring release date looks as if it will be on January 21st 2022.
Elden Ring is a whole new universe that is made by Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creator of the popular Dark Souls game series, and George R.R. Martin who is well known for his popular series: Game of Thrones.
It looks like Elden Ring is going to be an massive world full of vast and beautiful environments and deep caverns all full of dangerous enemies. And this can all be experienced online, or by yourself.
And it looks like we will be able to fully create our characters, while also using different powerful weapons, types of magic and amazing skills in combat. Which can be approached stealthily or head-on.
A very unexpected reveal that showed up in the Summer Game Fest show, and an brilliant one. The trailer looks superb and the game looks spectacular.
It looks like this game will be available for all platforms on launch, including all next-generation and old-generation consoles. And if this game does follow the challenge of Dark Souls, then it will surely be an entertaining game.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
Nintendo Direct put an end to E3 for this year, and it did show off some amazing games and updates that Nintendo lovers will adore. And the biggest of the Nintendo Direct reveals, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.
The sequel to the original, and extremely popular, Breath of the Wild that released back in 2017. Though the name of this sequel isn’t fully confirmed, we are just going to keep calling it Breath of the Wild 2.
And it certainly looks like this highly anticipated Breath of the Wild sequel will continue some of the great parts of the first. With a gorgeous world full of different challenges and secrets to overcome.
But it looks like it's going to take a step above that. Hyrule looks like it is going to be even bigger in BotW 2 than it was in the original. Being able to explore Hyrule’s vast skies and areas that we haven’t seen or touched in the game before.
Our favourite hero Link seems to have some extra abilities to before as well. Capable of burning away enemies with a scorching fire attack, or getting through rocky and solid surfaces. Which will be useful in different challenges and fighting evil.
But what is the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 release date? All we know at the moment is that it will be in 2022. No confirmed exact date just yet, but surely it will not be long until we do.
That concludes 10 of the top games that have been revealed with E3, Summer Game Fest, Ubisoft Forward and Nintendo Direct for Summer 2021. The future does look exciting for sure.
