Astrobot Game Review

Are you looking for a quirky, unique video game based on your favourite gaming console? Look no further than Astrobot! Released on September 6th, 2024, this PS5 platform, adventure game follows 4 years after the original game, Astrobot Playroom, which was released in 2020. The whole game is a creative nod towards the PlayStation history and has its own themed PS5 controller which was released by PlayStation as a celebration.

Although the game hasn’t been out for long, it has already received much positivity, so we want to see if the game is worth it with our honest review. So let’s look at our opinions on the new game and see if it’s worth the hype.

Why is Astros Playroom worth playing?

As we mentioned, the game has received huge amounts of positive reactions. PlayStation needed a win recently after their poor performance in the last few weeks. In August, one of their most anticipated video games, Concord, was shut down and pulled from stores after such poor reviews and sales. So it’s great to see this new game receiving such a great reception.

But what is Astrobot? Let’s explore the plot.

What is the history of Astro Bot?

The previous game, Astrobot Playroom, offers 5 different worlds to unlock, each with its unique environment and mission. The player must collect the components of the PS5 console to pass on to the next level. These items include memory, SSD, GPU and the iconic 1994 console flashback, collect coins, unlock hidden tracks and avoid enemies to win.

In the new 2024 edition, when the PS5 mothership is attacked by Astro's enemy scrambling its wires and scattering crew throughout space, Astro has to set off on a mission to rescue the lost crew and rebuild the ship.

Positives:

Astrobot is a quirky game with an interesting premise. We love how it is relevant to PlayStation and explores some of the consoles history and we aren’t surprised why it is such a success. The whole atmosphere of Astrobot is sensational, with stunning graphics, captivating colours, an engaging plot and addictive gameplay.

Many happy gamers have stated that the game feels like the retro classics with its gameplay and frequent checkpoints, there is never a worry about getting lost or dying mid-game with the fear of losing your progress. Plus the different art designs are exciting to see at each level.

Improvements:

However, it wouldn’t be a fair review if we didn’t name a couple of possible improvements. Although these are only small points, it would be great to see them integrated into the game. One thing we and many other gamers noticed was that the game wasn’t that long and couldn’t be longer. Most players took about 10 hours to fully complete the game which, if attempted, could be done in one go.

Others mentioned that bonus levels were being uncovered too soon within levels, so there was too much going on. However, a lot of fans mentioned this was a positive as it meant some levels were extra long or had different endings.
