It’s the start of the month, which means the newest Games with Gold is now live. Over the last several months, Xbox hasn’t really provided much to be excited about when it comes to the free monthly games. Mostly features line ups of old Xbox 360 games that most players would leave untouched, and numerous Xbox One games that most players have probably never heard of before.
Before we get onto the line-up, Xbox had an announcement about Games with Gold that I am sure many will be pleased about. From October, Games with Gold will no longer feature Xbox 360 games. I am sure many people may miss the chance to get Xbox 360 games for free. But with the Xbox Series X now being widely available and players wanting high-quality games, it makes sense to finally move on from monthly free Xbox 360 games.
You’ve also got until the 15th of September to get Scourge Bringer for free as well. One of the games from August’s lineup. But without any further delay, let’s get into this month’s lineup.
Gods Will Fall (Xbox One)
First up is Gods Will Fall. An action-adventure game made by Deep Silver and Plaion in January of 2021. You take control of a Celtic warrior, who seeks to sever the Gods' control over humanity. You assemble your clan of 8 Celtic survivors and take on a quest, facing legions of beats and minions that await you in the Gods’ realms.
Gods Will Fall received mixed reviews. With a Metascore of 70 and a user score of 6.3 on Metacritic. The game was praised for its interesting story events and enjoyable rogue-like elements. But received complaints based on its lack of variety in combat and numerous bugs.
Gods Will Fall is available for free for Xbox Live Gold members from September 1st to September 30th and is usually worth around £12.99/$14.99 on the Microsoft Store.

Double Kick Heroes (Xbox One)
Second, in the line-up and the last of the Xbox One games this month is Double Kick Heroes. A game that combines rhythm and shoot ‘em up mechanics. Made by WhisperGames in August 2020. Featuring both a story mode and arcade mode that are made up of 30 different levels where you must survive by killing a variety of monsters in your gundillac.
On Metacritic, Double Kick Heroes received a 72 Metascore and a 7.3 user score. The game is praised for being quite entertaining with its rhythm mechanics being quite solid. And being quite an enjoyable and challenging experience.
Double Kick Heroes is normally worth around £18.49/$21.99 on the Xbox store and will be available for free from September 16th to October 15th.

Thrillville (Xbox)
Now onto the third game in the line-up, and one of the two last old Xbox games that will be available with Xbox Games with Gold. That game is Thrillville, the 2006 original Xbox theme park simulation game made by Frontier Developments and published by Lucasarts. The games gives players the ability to make the coaster of their dreams along with a massive variety of amusement rides and activities. Along with being able to tour your own park on foot.
Though the game has an average Metascore of 71 on Metacritic, it has a very low user score of 1.8. Though some enjoyed the fun games and rides you could make, the game had a lot of issues when it came to faults, bad level designs and very odd-looking models.
Thrillville is normally worth £8.49/$9.99 on the Xbox Store and will be available for free from the 1st of September to the 15th of September.

Portal 2 (Xbox 360)
Last on the list, and the star pick is portal 2 for the Xbox 360. If you haven’t played Portal 2, you are really missing out. One of the most popular and memorable puzzle games in the world. Made by Valve Corporation in 2011, Portal 2 is a huge puzzle-platforming game that takes place in a huge and empty facility. You utilise the iconic portal gun to create portals between different areas and solve a variety of puzzles to escape.
With a 95 Metascore on Metacritic and an 8.8 user score, this game is worth grabbing this month. The game is praised for its entertaining and strong story, and massive variety of complex and enjoyable puzzles that don’t fail to entertain throughout the game's duration.
Portal 2 is worth £14.99/$19.99 on the Xbox Store and will be available for free from September 16th to September 30th.
