Having Trouble With Your Nintendo Controller?

In this blog, we'll refer to the Nintendo controllers with their correct name, Nintendo Joycons. Joycons are two separate controller sticks that can be used together or individually.

 

Is there a difference between Switch and oled Joy-Cons?

  • There's no difference between normal Switch and OLED Switch controllers.
  • Both types are compatible with the opposite device.

 

Why is my Switch Joy-Cons not working?

  •  Check your controllers have the latest firmware installed.
  • Go to System Settings - Controllers - Sensors. Then if you need to, the update button will be there.
  • If this doesn't work, remove any covers or skins on the controller to gain full connectivity.
  • The game itself may also need updating if the controllers seem to be up to date. 

 

How do I reset my Joycons?

  • Press the SYNC button to reset each controller separately.
  • The SYNC button is found on the inside of the controller, along the black section that connects to the console. 
  • This will reboot your controllers.
  • It's important to turn your console off and on then connect the controllers to the console to ensure everything is fresh.

 

How do you resync Joycons?

  • On the HOME menu, go to Controllers.
  • Select Change Grip/Order.
  • Press and hold down SYNC on the actual joycon which is found in the black section of the controller as described in the previous question. 
  • One paired, the player LED corresponding to the controller number should remain lit. 

 

How long will Joy-Cons last?

  • When fully charged, the battery for the Joy-Con controllers can last approximately 20 hours.
  • Joycons will last around 20 hours when fully charged.
  • This is the same for either controller.

 

How many sets of Joy-Cons do I need?

  • For most games, only one set is needed, meaning 1 left and 1 right joycon.
  • Some games if you're playing multiplayer offer shared controllers like in Mario Kart.
  • If you have 4 people playing you'll need 2 sets, if you have 8 people playing you'll need 4 sets.

 

Why did one of my Joycons stop working?

  • Check your controllers have the latest updates by looking in system settings. 
  • Check the latest firmware is installed.
  • Check your controllers are cleaned to ensure dust hasn't interfered with the controller.
