October 15th, 2024, saw the arrival of a new Just Dance game as we know it. Just Dance VR. This virtual reality edition of the beloved classic was designed by Ubisoft and is the first-ever virtual reality version of the game, where players no longer need to hold onto a controller to keep track of their scores. The points are now based on full-body movements and actions. Since its initial release in 2009, Ubisoft has continuously smashed out a new Just Dance game every year, and this time they may have pulled off the ultimate dancing experience.
The game offers 25 iconic songs from past games, and we cannot wait to give our full review and opinions of it. Let’s get to it!

Is there a VR version of Just Dance?
When we checked out the game, there were 3 immediate new additions that we noticed straight away. The first thing we noticed was that the game was that maximum number of players has been increased to 6, whereas before in the 2023 edition and previous only 5 players could dance together.
The previous games also included a controller where the game picks up the scores through a ‘one-hand scoring system’, but now there is a two-handed scoring system which will make results much more accurate. The final big change we noticed was that when a dance battle is over, players don’t just return to the main menu to select another game. Still, they enter a ‘virtual apartment’ where gamers can play basketball, improvise and interact with the other players. This makes the game feel a lot more like a video game, with additional activities to do in this virtual reality experience.
The Virtual Apartment:
The ‘virtual apartment’ was a feature in Just Dance VR that caught our eye. Players get transported here after each dance round and it’s the first place we visit when opening the game. The apartment itself is set out in a city-style, apartment loft, with a large open living space with modern decorations and colourful furniture. In this living space, as we mentioned, players can play basketball and other games whilst in VR mode and also interact with the other players. This includes sending stickers to each other in chat, voice chatting to people and making new friends in the game.
Can you play Just Dance without VR?
Altogether, this game was very refreshing, it was great to see a completely new layout and design for the Just Dance Series especially as it has been running for so long. The VR aspect gave it a new purpose and the dancing was engaging with accurate results. However, the one thing we wish we could have seen be added to the game was new dances. The game consists of 25 pre-done dances from old games. It would have been nice to see some more dances and even some new ones from 2024 songs which we haven’t seen yet.
Although we are getting a Just Dance 2025 edition, this will be on all platforms besides the VR console, so virtual reality gamers won’t be able to experience the new 2024 dances which is a shame. Hopefully, an update will be made where players can enjoy the new dances.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, Just Dance VR was a success! There were enough changes made to the game to make it unique in VR form. We loved the apartment feature which makes the player feel more like a character unlike someone just playing the game. The apartment gives the game an additional layer and breaks up the continuous dancing throughout the game. And of course, we love how up to 6 players can now join in, helping really create that party atmosphere!
