Within the first few months of 2025, the Switch 2 has been revealed and it's rumoured an Xbox handheld console will be coming soon. Whilst the Switch 2 has been officially confirmed, the Xbox handheld is still completely up in the air... but that doesn't stop us from comparing what we know about the two consoles. Our friends at Stock Must Go gave us an insight into what we could expect from the Xbox Series X/S Handheld Edition, so let's take what we loosely know about the two consoles and compare!
Please note: As mentioned, everything stated in this blog regarding either console is based on rumours or online speculation (unless stated in the blog). We'll regularly update this page with further details once more information on the console is released.

How does Nintendo Switch compare to Xbox handheld?
Already, we've noticed a couple of similarities and differences between the two consoles. Firstly, it's speculated that both consoles will arrive in 2025, the Switch 2 will make its way to stores first on June 5th 2025 right after the Switch 2 Tour which ends at the end of May. Xbox is always consistent with its release dates when it comes to normal consoles, so if we follow their current pattern, the Xbox handheld could be available from October/November 2025. Another similarity is the consoles will look very similar. Of course, like most handhelds, we assume the Xbox handheld will also adopt that touchscreen with the controllers on either side. The Xbox handheld will be predominantly black with green accents to reference Xbox's iconic colours. This is essentially what Nintendo did, keeping the Switch 2 black with red and blue accents across the device. However, whilst the Switch 2 controllers magnetically connect to the screen and can be removed, it's rumoured the Xbox handheld will be permanently stuck to the console.
A few differences we rumoured were that the Switch 2 is going to include a built-in prop stand to hold the console up whereas the Xbox handheld will be strictly handheld. No option to stand the device up on it's own. As well, it's rumoured Xbox will be working alongside ASUS to create their console, whereas Nintendo is working completely alone.

Conclusion:
We think both consoles have great potential! There's only one factor we're slightly concerned about. People have been desperate for a Nintendo Switch sequel since the original came out in 2017. It's been highly anticipated and is already being considered for the 'most anticipated console release of 2025'. No one in particular has asked for an Xbox handheld and considering it's releasing after the Switch 2; we're unsure how successful it'll be. With news a new Xbox console could be on the way in 2027, we believe people will skip this handheld release and wait for the big console. But what do you think?
Out of the Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S Handheld Edition, which one would you be more likely to buy?
