September is close, and so are the free Xbox games for Xbox Live Gold. If you are unaware, owners of Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Games Pass Ultimate (the version that includes Gold) get a couple of free games to own for a month, before it changes once again.
The main problem with Xbox Gold Free Games is that they tend to be quite bad or incredibly average, especially when comparing to what PlayStation Plus offers to their users. There always tends to be four games available with Xbox Live Gold, two Xbox One games and two games from Xbox 360 or the original Xbox. But the issue that a lot of people find is that these games tend to be very unknown and uninteresting games, with a few outliers here and there.
But is this month any different? I’ve been looking through community reactions for the games this month and it is a bit mixed. Some people are extremely happy with the Xbox 360 games this month, others, including myself, are completely unaware of what some of these games are. As I usually do with these sorts of blogs, I am going to give a brief description and some key details for the games.
Anyway, I am going to stop droning on now and just tell you what they are.
Warhammer: Chaos bane (Xbox):
Warhammer: Chaos Bane is the first game that is going to be available with Xbox Live Gold September. It’s an action RPG obviously set in the world of Warhammer. Taking place in a world and locations that have been ruined by war and are shrouded in magic.
You can play as one of four characters that have unique weapons and abilities. Play alone, or with up to 4 friends or other players. This game is more focused around cooperative gameplay, with the design and interface being focused around multiplayer. But it also has a number of activities upon the story mode, including dungeons, boss rush modes and more.
Warhammer: Chaosbane will be available for free for Xbox Gold subscribers between the 1st of September and September 30th. This game is usually worth around £33.50 or $39.99.
Mulaka (Xbox):
Mulaka for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X is the second game available with Games with Gold September. A 3D action adventure that takes place in Northern Mexico and focuses around the indigenous culture of the Tarahumara.
You play as a Tarahumara shaman who is fighting back a corruption that spreading across the land. In a world that is filled with different puzzles and environmental challenges that are inspired by real Sierra Tarahumara places, and creatures that are based around the Tarahumara’s mythology.
Mulaka is normally worth £16 on the Xbox store in the UK, around $20 in the US. Mulaka will be available with Games with Gold from the 16th of September to the 15th of October.
Zone of the Enders HD Collection (Xbox 360):
Zone of the Elders HD Collection is the third game available with Games with Gold September 2021. It’s the first of the two Xbox 360 games and of course, with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X backwards compatibility, you can play this game on recent consoles.
This collection contains both the original Zone of the Elders and Zone of the Elders: The 2nd Runner, and has you pilot Jehuty, the Orbital Frame, and help the Space Force to destroy the Bahram forces. This game comes from Hideo Kojima, the creator of the popular series Metal Gear.
Zone of the Enders HD collection will be available from the 1st of September to the 15th of September, so you have a more limited time frame to grab this. It’s normally worth £25 on the UK Microsoft store, or $30 in the US.
Samurai Shodown II (Xbox 360):
The final game making its way with the free Xbox games September 2021 is Samurai Shodown II for the Xbox 360. A classic 1v1 fighting game that tests your skills when it comes down to intense sword fights and a selection of 15 characters.
Not a whole lot to say about this. It has some wicked classic and retro looks and gives the classic fighting genre a Samurai theme to it. You can play against one player or AI, depending on your preference.
Through the Xbox and Microsoft store this game is usually worth around £6-7 in the UK and $9.99 in the US. Samurai Shodown II will be available with Games with Gold from September 16th to September 30th.
Overall, a decent month by the look of things, with some good Xbox 360 games available. The normal cost of all games combined would usually be around £81.50/$100 with some rounding.
