Is Core Keeper a full release?

Core Keeper was released on Windows, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on August 27th, 2024, the sandbox, adventure game was developed by Pugstorm and will also release on the Switch, PS4 and Xbox One at a slightly later date of September 17th.

But with the game now out on many major platforms, it’s time to give our reviews and see if it’s worth the wait. So quickly, let’s look and see what to expect from Core Keeper.

What is the story of Core Keeper?

In the game, players awaken as an explorer in a long-forgotten cavern that is bursting with hidden secrets. It is up to the gamer to mine for relics and resources, create tools, build bases and explore a forever-evolving world! Travel through numerous levels each with its unique environment to uncover the secrets and stay alive!

How many hours does it take to beat Core Keeper?

When playing the game, we noticed one of the many benefits was how long the gameplay lasted. With over 20 hours of game progression, it’s perfect for anyone who wants long-form gameplay but doesn’t want to waste weeks upon weeks of playing the same thing.

It is also a great game to play individually and as a group. With so much to explore within the game, it is great to link up with a couple of friends and cover the levels quicker whilst also completing all the tasks solo is just as exciting and engaging!

What we also loved about the game was the way it's designed, set out like a classic retro video game, players view the game like a traditional 2D birds-eye view, allowing for even more of the map to be explored. The game's colours are stunning and dim, allowing the mystery to be investigated further. With various types of map locations to uncover, endless gaming hours await!

On top of this, the adventure, sandbox gaming genre is genuinely very overcrowded and can be difficult to make a new game stand out. However, Core Keeper is great at enabling its survival/crafting progression to make it slightly different compared to other adventure video games.

Improvements:

We did struggle to find any negative outlooks on the game, by gamers in general it seems to have received massive positive reactions. We just hope that the game proves to be just as popular on the Switch and other gaming platforms as it releases later next month.

Pros:  Cons:
  • Very simple gameplay
  • Fun multiplayer and single player
  • Enemies can sometimes be too easy to beat
